Telling Tales

“It was great! Lucinda is very engaging and animated with lots of body movement and tone, and held everyone’s attention throughout. Choosing a unicorn story was so fitting and it flowed well. She is confident and has a good ‘stage presence’.” Event Organiser

I run creative and reflective Storyplay Workshops for groups and individuals who want to be entertained and inspired, who want to connect with others and the world around them and who want to reflect on how they can make the best of who they are – in a safe and fun environment. My Storyplay Workshops use a mixture of story, artwork, movement, voice, reflective activities and crafting to draw out and explore issues of importance and interest to the participants. They have:

  • Helped children connect to learning topics and PSHE issues in school

  • Encouraged thinking and engagement for issues-based organisations and charities

  • Improved team relations within organisations

  • Marked or celebrated annual traditions or personal life events

  • Improved self-awareness, confidence and skills for groups

  • Connected families with each other and nature at outdoor events

  • Brought story and a sense of community to older people in residential care

Why Storyplay?

In 2005, after studying dramatherapy, a creative arts psychotherapy in which clients use story, movement, puppets and artwork, etc to explore who they are and how they relate to the word, I worked as both a dramatherapist for a range of clients, and a creative movement practitioner with nursery and primary-aged children.  As my own children moved into school, I became a regular visitor to their classes telling stories and encouraging them to use the stories as the basis for creative exploration and expression. I loved the interaction and imagination that was sparked in the children by the stories and activities. As a result, I have gone on to develop a storytelling approach which encourages my audiences to listen, respond, explore and reflect. And thus Telling Tales Storyplay was born! I have since worked with adult as well as children’s groups.

“The children were taken into another world by your story. I loved the part when you were giving out pasta to everyone and they were so eager to stretch out their hands and have some.” KS1 teacher

I love taking on new projects where I can work closely with those who commission me to plan appropriate stories and activities to get my audiences reflecting, connecting and responding. I’d love to hear from you if you have any projects requiring a focus on personal growth, social, educational or environmental issues which would benefit from a creative approach.
