Clinical Supervision

Clinical supervision for therapists and counsellors

Are you looking for regular clinical supervision that is a bit different? I offer outdoor clinical supervision in Uckfield for therapists and counsellors who want to integrate nature in active reflection and work in an embodied and creative way.

I’m a dramatherapist by training and studied for my Supervision Diploma in 2021. Since then I have offered supervision in both my private practice and in my part-time role as an Associate Therapist/Supervisor at Beacon House Trauma Services. My clinical supervision is generally delivered outdoors with some online. I work with both individuals and groups.

Areas of interest and experience

These include developmental trauma, attachment, loss, grief, shame, anxiety and depression, and working with looked after, and adopted young people and their families. I also have experience of working with clients with autism, and particularly where autism and trauma are co-morbid.

My clinical supervision approach

I use Shohet and Hawkin’s 7-Eyed Model of Supervision (see image) as the basis for my work with supervisees. This allows us to consider and reflect on broader contextual and relational issues beyond simply the client-therapist relationship. I am interested to reflect with supervisees on what they are not bringing, as well as what they are bringing, to supervision.

Bringing nature into clinical supervision

I work mainly outdoors in Views Wood and Hempstead Woods in Uckfield (East Sussex), and offer some limited online supervision. When working outdoors, I invite my supervisees to respond to their own internal impulses as well as the processes and dynamics they observe in nature as a way to explore and deepen their understanding of what is happening in the work with the client. Issues we regularly address include:

  • the therapeutic relationship
  • the client’s journey
  • safe and ethical practice
  • cultural and organisational factors
  • supervisee professional development and self care

‘I have really valued Lucinda’s calm, gentle and patient approach to supervision. She works creatively to explore what is going on in the client-therapist relationship, taking the time to draw out images and metaphor. I can be in a hurry to get on and explore the client’s material and Lucinda made time to explore and nurture our relationship. My confidence as a therapist really grew during the time we worked together’.

Clinical Supervision Groups

As well as offering individual supervision, I currently run an outdoor supervision group in Selmeston near Eastbourne which is full, but if you are interested in joining a waiting list for an outdoor supervision group place, please contact me.

Next steps

If you’re interested in finding out more, please get in touch. I especially welcome therapists who work with Looked After and Adopted young people and their families. As an adoptive mother and a therapist with many years’ experience of working with this client group, I know how challenging this work can be. I charge £65 for an hour’s supervision for qualified therapists/counsellors (£80 if being paid by an organisation) and £50 for trainee therapists/counsellors.
