My skills and experience
My core dramatherapy training gave me a solid grounding in the theory and practice of general mental health issues, attachment, developmental trauma, movement, play and working with the unconscious.
Much of my work over nearly 20 years has been with children, adults and families. I currently work at Beacon House, a specialist trauma service in Cuckfield where I work with adults and children/young people and their families. I have many years’ experience of working with adopted and looked after children, and their families, and am mother to an adopted children. My areas of special interest include:
- anxiety
- emotional dysregulation
- developmental trauma
- parent-child relationships (of all ages)
- insecure attachment
- shame
- depression
- loss
- issues relating to adopted and looked after children and the systems around them
I also have some experience of and interest in working with neurodivergence.
My deep connection with the natural world began at an early age. My first memories include looking after injured birds (amongst others, a kestrel, a curlew and a rook), mucking about and swimming in rivers and ponds, and riding my pony out alone on the Yorkshire moors. Nature has always been a place where I can ‘be me’, connect with a living world that is at ease with itself, and experience awe, joy and inner peace.
You can read more about me and why I do the work I do in My Story.
